Blessings

Today's favorite moments included . . .

. . . a really uplifting lesson about priesthood blessings. It strengthened my faith that God is truly mindful of us, and that even when our prayers are answered with a "no," it is done out of His love and intimate knowledge of what will bless us most.

. . . sharing popcorn with four generations of relatives. There's something about just being together that draws us closer to each other.

Not-so-favorite moment:

. . . my tired, cranky daughter telling me she's going to cry until Tuesday.

Oh, you made me laugh.

We had a couple of good talks yesterday about the importance of family--a husband and wife that both emphasized the importance of being able to laugh with those you love.

Why is it easier to laugh at this when it comes from someone else's child?

I suppose it's because we stick mental post-it notes like "I must teach you good principles" and "You really try my patience sometimes" all over our mental images of our kids. We don't feel nearly the same responsibility toward other children, and they don't bring as much baggage with them.

We also don't love them nearly as much as ours. Ironically, with with all the baggage comes a certain familiarity and fondness. "You're a handful, but you're MY handful, by golly."
